“It’s very nice of you to look at cars with me this evening. I know you already had a busy day.” Lily climbed into Jed’s Silver Ford F150.

“My pleasure,” Jed stated as he slammed the heavy door to the passenger side of his truck. He rounded the back of the truck and climbed in behind the wheel. “When I called, I was hoping to see you tomorrow, but when you said you needed to go car shopping, I saw an opportunity to get together with you sooner. I don’t mean to be forward, but I enjoyed our dinner date the other night and have been looking forward to talking with you again. Besides, I know most of the car salesmen around the peninsula. I can likely help you to get a good deal.”

“I appreciate any help. I’m looking for something sensible and efficient. I’ve done a bit of research online and hope to find a mid-sized SUV with low mileage, preferably nothing over fifty or sixty thousand miles. I’d like to buy a used vehicle to bypass the initial depreciation of a new car. Either a Blazer, Explorer, or maybe a Rav4.”

“I have a good friend that works at the Mazda dealership in Bremerton. Would you consider a CX-9?”

“Definitely. Those seem to be very reliable and reasonable as well.”

“Have you eaten? We could stop in Silverdale for dinner. There is a great restaurant and brewery that will be on the way.”

“Dinner might be a good idea. The car buying process can take a while.” Lily pondered the fact that he called their dinner the other night a date. She assumed he considered this a second date. She wasn’t exactly sure how she felt about that, but she was happy to be in his company. She enjoyed talking with him and hadn’t been excited about car shopping alone. That is why she had put it off as long as she had.

“Were you and Doug talking about the murder this morning?” Jed was hoping they were having a business rather than a personal conversation.

“Yes. He had some follow-up questions about the restaurant.”

“I hope he gets to the bottom of that soon. I imagine he’s holding up your access to the building.”

“Yes. I’d sure like to get in there. I have so much work to do. I have all my orders set up. My menus are being printed, the signage is on the way, and my license is all taken care of. I need to get set up and get my inspection over with. I placed an ad for help. I’ll need to get a few people on board to help me with setup. I may need to interview team members at the coffee shop.”

“It’s hard to find good help these days. I hope that goes well for you.”

“I may have found my first employee already. Carol Walters expressed interest in getting another job. She seems like a very nice young lady. She did an excellent job taking care of us when she was our server at the café.
